German transport operator Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK) has ordered 100 hydrogen-powered fuel cell hybrid buses from Solaris and Wrightbus. The purchase of these vehicles was made possible by the recently announced funding from the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport.
Solaris Bus & Coach will provide 20 guaranteed buses and 20 optional fuel cell hybrid buses. The 20 individual buses will be delivered later this year and gradually integrated into the RVK fleet.
Wrightbus will supply 20 guaranteed and 40 optional hydrogen buses. Delivery of the 20 hydrogen buses - adapted to German conditions - is scheduled for the end of 2023.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, RVK is expected to test the first hydrogen-powered articulated buses, which are currently not yet available on the market.
